More About Stevie

Stevie Smith is the founding member of Expedition 360 - the first human powered around the world expedition. He has spent fourteen years of his life on the project, including the last four years it has taken to write his book, Pedalling To Hawaii: A Human Powered Adventure Across The Western Hemisphere (Summersdale 2005).

During the course of the expedition Stevie has given hundreds of lectures to audiences in the UK, France, Spain, Portugal, The United States and Canada. He was also responsible for writing the expedition's newsletter.

The expedition has been largely self-funded through the promotional efforts of Stevie, his expedition partner Jason Lewis and members of the support team.

Prior to the expedition, Stevie spent four years as a consultant in environmental research, specialising in European and global policy issues. He worked for commercial and governmental institutions in London, Paris and Brussels, wrote papers and presented lectures to industry conferences, government and student bodies in Europe. Stevie holds a Master's Degree in Environmental Technology from Imperial College, London.

While writing his book, Stevie has been working as a ferryman in the idyllic coastal town of Salcombe, South West England, where his family lives. Stevie rejoined the expedition in April 2005 to pedal with Jason from Australia to Indonesia. After publication of Pedalling To Hawaii in July 2005, he will be touring in the UK and abroad, speaking and promoting the book.
